Opened in November 2001, Calusa Pines Golf Club was the brainchild of Chicago venture capitalist Gary Chensoff, who challenged designers Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry to build something unlike anything else in South Florida on what was a completely flat parcel of land. Their solution was audacious: blasting through limestone to carve out 72 acres of pristine lakes and using the displaced fill to sculpt sweeping ridgelines rising as much as 58 feet above the fairways, all framed by mature oaks, pines, and sabal palms. The resulting elevation changes and natural-feeling contours make players forget they are in Florida at all, an effect heightened by extensive native plantings that blend the manufactured topography seamlessly into the landscape. Calusa Pines has been ranked among Golf Digest's Top 100 Courses in America since 2007, currently sitting at No. 68, and stands at No. 20 on the publication's list of the 50 greatest courses built since 2000, the highest-ranked Florida course on that list. Beyond the accolades, the club was founded to offer an exceptional, unhurried golf experience for members who share a true passion for the game and the camaraderie it inspires.
