A Day in the Life of a Naples Golfer | CAVU Golf Club and a Hole-in-One

People often ask what makes Naples such a special place to live.

The sunshine helps. The beaches certainly don’t hurt. But for many residents, it’s the lifestyle that keeps them here year after year.

Recently, my teammate Jozef Maston and I spent a day enjoying what I would describe as a perfect example of a typical day in the life of a Naples golfer.

Our destination was CAVU Golf Club, formerly known as Naples Grande Golf Club. Following a comprehensive redesign, CAVU has quickly become one of the most talked-about golf experiences in Southwest Florida.

As someone who receives golf instruction from Mark Durland, who is based at CAVU, I’ve had the opportunity to play the course since the renovation. Jozef, however, was experiencing it for the first time.

Neither of us expected the day to become one we would never forget.

A Fresh Look at a Naples Favorite

The transformation at CAVU is impressive.

The course has been reimagined with strategic bunkering, improved playing conditions, and a layout that rewards thoughtful shot-making while remaining enjoyable for players of varying skill levels.

One of the things I appreciate most about the redesign is that it feels distinctly Naples. The course blends beautifully into its natural surroundings while creating memorable golf holes that stay with you long after the round is over.

As we made our way through the opening holes, Jozef couldn’t stop commenting on the condition of the course and the quality of the redesign.

Then we arrived at the second hole.

The Shot Every Golfer Dreams About

Every golfer imagines what it would be like.

The perfect swing.

The perfect flight.

The ball landing on the green and tracking toward the hole.

For most golfers, it’s a dream that never happens.

For Jozef Maston, it happened that morning.

Standing on the tee of the par-three second hole, Jozef struck a shot that looked good from the moment it left the clubface.

The ball landed softly, rolled toward the cup, and disappeared.

Hole-in-one.

Just like that.

As we celebrated on the tee box, there was a brief moment where none of us fully processed what had happened. Then came the excitement, the laughter, and eventually the walk to the green to confirm what we already suspected.

There it was.

His ball resting in the bottom of the cup.

It was Jozef’s third career hole-in-one, an accomplishment most golfers can only dream of achieving once.

Fortunately, we captured the moment on video as he walked across the green to retrieve his ball from the hole.

Those are the memories that make this game so special.

As exciting as the ace was, what struck me most was how perfectly the day represented the Naples lifestyle.

Golf here isn’t simply about scorecards and handicaps.
